The Marvel superhero movie dominates both the domestic and international charts, but can't prevent another down weekend in Hollywood as newcomers 'Crawl' and 'Stuber' disappoint.

AceShowbiz - "Spider-Man: Far From Home" swings to another victory at box office. The latest Marvel superhero movie dominates both the domestic and international charts, with an estimated addition of $45.3 million from 4,634 theaters in North America for a total domestic gross of $274.6 million so far. Internationally, it added another $100 million for a global total of $847.1 million.

But the web-slinging hero couldn't prevent another down weekend in terms of overall ticket sales domestically as several newcomers disappoint. Domestic revenue is down 25% from the same weekend a year ago, putting year-to-date revenue down 8.7 percent, according to Comscore.

"Toy Story 4" also holds on to its second place after four weeks playing in theaters, adding an estimated $20.7 million to its domestic cume. It has brought in a total of $771.1 million worldwide so far.

While beloved franchises, including Marvel's "Spider-Man" and Disney-Pixar's "Toy Story", are thriving, original newcomers are struggling. Paramount Pictures' horror thriller "Crawl" debuts at No. 3 with approximately $12 million, while Fox's action comedy "Stuber", which stars Kumail Nanjiani and Dave Bautista, arrives at No. 4 with approximately just a little over $8 million.

"People always complain about the lack of original offerings from the studios especially during the summer but this summer in particular it seems like audiences are turning their backs on these films," Comscore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian comments on moviegoers' reception to these new releases. "It's a real head-scratcher in a way as to why some of these films aren't doing well."

Rounding out the top five are The Beatles-themed romantic comedy movie "Yesterday", which slips from No. 3 last week. It added approximately $6.8 million in its third weekend.

Dergarabedian says it's not a good thing when the top movies are holdovers week after week. He explains, "That means newcomers are not making inroads. You want audiences every weekend to be excited about a new film."

Next week, Disney's "The Lion King (2019)", a live-action remake of the studio's classic animation, is expected to give a strong boost to the overall industry numbers.
