Featured in the new sneak peek of the upcoming remake to the 1998 animated film are Mulan's parents, her grandmother, her horse and her fight on the battlefield.

AceShowbiz - Disney has unveiled the first footage of its upcoming live-action "Mulan" by debuting the first teaser trailer. Making its way out online, the video highlights the titular character Hua Mulan (Liu Yifei), who defies the norm and embraces her true destiny as a warrior.

"We have excellent news. The matchmaker has found you an auspicious match," her mother (Rosalind Chao) says early in the video. "It is decided," her father (Tzi Ma) adds. "It is what is best for our family." Mulan remains stoic, before replying to her parents, "Yes, I will bring honor to us all."

The next scene shows Mulan getting groomed, possibly for her wedding, as her grandmother (Cheng Pei-pei) points out her best qualities, which are grace, discipline and composure. With such qualities, Mulan carries on his duty as a warrior. "It is my duty to fight," she says, as she wields her sword, rides a horse and faces his enemies on the battlefield.

In the new take on Disney's 1998 animated film of the same name, "when the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army to defend the country from Northern invaders, Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father. Masquerading as a man, Hua Jun, she is tested every step of the way and must harness her inner-strength and embrace her true potential. It is an epic journey that will transform her into an honored warrior and earn her the respect of a grateful nation...and a proud father."

Niki Caro directs the film from a screenplay written by Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver and Elizabeth Martin & Lauren Hynek based on the narrative poem "The Ballad of Mulan". Donnie Yen stars as Mulan's mentor Commander Tung, Gong Li plays a powerful and malevolent witch named Xian Lang, Jet Li stars as The Emperor, and Jason Scott Lee portrays Bori Khan, a Hun warrior leader allied with Xian Lang, who is intent on avenging his father's death.

"Mulan" is set to hit theaters across the nation on March 27, 2020.
