One Twitter follower tells the 'Head Above Water' singer that she needs Jesus as a response to her latest track, while another declares intention to unfollow her.

AceShowbiz - Christians have taken aim at Avril Lavigne for naming her new track "I Fell in Love with the Devil".

The pop star teased the release at the end of last week (ends July 05) and posted promotional images for the single on her Instagram account on Sunday, prompting followers to point out she should be more appreciative of God for helping her battle Lyme disease, which has sidelined her music career for the past five years.

One Twitter user wrote: "You need Jesus. What was up with the last single, head above water? God saved you and blessed you with another opportunity to choose. Now you have this c**p?".

"Man, what a shame. I've been a fan since you came out, this is a turnoff. Get your soul right with Jesus. Only one who can save you, yet you hold his cross and blaspheme his name? I pray for your salvation."

Another wrote: "I'll hv (have) to unfollow you now... how can you fall in love with Devil when God created you with amazing talend (talent) which made so famous (sic)."

The "Complicated" singer has yet to respond to the backlash.
