AceShowbiz - Prosecutors in Sweden are requesting permission to hold rapper A$AP Rocky in custody for up to two weeks while they investigate his involvement in an alleged assault.
The "Wild for the Night" star, real name Rakim Mayers, was arrested by police officials on Tuesday, July 02, following his performance at the Smash festival in Stockholm.
Rocky and members of his entourage stand accused of punching a man in the street during an altercation on Sunday, which was caught on camera and posted on TMZ.
The rapper subsequently defended himself by releasing footage taken in the lead up to the brawl, claiming the alleged victim had been harassing and following his crew, and after repeatedly warning him to back off, they eventually became embroiled in a physical fight.
Rocky's lawyer, Henrik Olsoon Lilja, is "confident" his client will be cleared of any wrongdoing when the facts of the matter are fully revealed, but that may take some time as authorities have filed a court motion seeking to keep the New York native behind bars for longer than the usual three days allowed by law.
If convicted of assault, Rocky faces up to six years in prison.
However, there was some good news for the 30 year old's team - prosecutors have chosen to release the star's security guard, who the man was accused of attacking first, due to "insufficient evidence."
The legal trouble has thrown Rocky's upcoming shows into jeopardy - he had to be replaced by British grime MC Stormzy at Poland's Open'er Festival on Thursday, while he is currently still billed to close London's Wireless Festival on Sunday.
