The 18-year-old daughter of the disgraced singer, who came out of the closet at 14 years old, opens up about being gender fluid in an interview with Paper magazine.

AceShowbiz - R. Kelly's daughter Jaah Kelly opens up about her sexuality, four years after coming out of the closet. The 18-year-old music artist, who came out as a transgender male in 2014 when she was 14 years old, says in an interview with Paper magazine for its Pride issue that nowadays she identifies herself as a lesbian.

"When I posted that video, I was so scared," Jaah tells the publication of the video posted on her then-active Ask.fm account. "When I was younger, I always felt like I had to make a choice. I knew that I was a girl who liked other girls. But because of what I was taught, I felt like the only way you could like another girl is if you were a boy."

Refusing to be defined by a label, Jaah says, "I identify as a lesbian, I know I like girls, but that's as far as I'll go to label myself. It's up to you how you see me. Either way, I don't care. I stand in my truth, and why does my truth need a label?" The second child of R. Kelly's three children also tells the magazine that she doesn't mind if people refer to her as male, female, genderfluid or nonbinary.

Jaah, who introduced herself as Jay Kelly when she came out years ago, wrote on her now-closed Ask.fm account, "I believe I am a boy and want surgery and the medication to help me be who I was supposed to be." She said she knew she was trans at 6 or 7 years old, and slowly started to identify with he/him pronouns.

The musician, who is working on her demo "Tapping for My People", said her family was supportive and addressed her correctly. Contrary to reports which said that Jaah was rejected by her family, she said on Ask.fm, "[My mom] was like, 'Baby, you know I love you if you were bi, gay, [lesbian], you name it and I would still love you so much.'
