News of the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' actress and the Coldplay frontman's breakup reportedly shocks their close friends since the pair 'always seemed really happy together.'

AceShowbiz - Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin have broken up after nearly two years together. The British singer/songwriter has reportedly told his friends that he's single again after calling it quits with the American actress/model last month.

The news comes as a shock to their close friends since the pair had talked about marriage just months before they parted ways, according to The Sun. "Chris and Dakota were very easygoing and always seemed really happy together," a friend allegedly tells the site. "There was talk of engagement but now he says they have gone their separate ways, which has come as a real surprise to everyone."

Dakota and Chris, who dated for 20 months, were last pictured together in April when she was picking him up after a hike in Malibu, CA. They first sparked romance rumors in October 2017, after they were spotted on a sushi date. She was later seen supporting the 42-year-old musician on several Coldplay's concerts.

Back in November 2018, a source said, "They will probably get married. It's serious. Chris (likes that) she doesn't thrive on the spotlight and is very understated." Another source similarly told Us Weekly in December, "They'll be engaged soon. Chris is head over heels."

Dakota is even close to Chris' ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow as they hung out together last Thanksgiving. The 29-year-old actress, famous for her role as Anastasia Steele in "Fifty Shades of Grey", also joined the "Avengers: Endgame" star and her husband Brad Falchuk at a birthday dinner for their mutual friend Derek Blasberg, although Chris wasn't pictured with them at the time.

Prior to dating Dakota, Chris was briefly linked to Jennifer Lawrence and Annabelle Wallis following his split from Gwyneth in 2014. The ex-spouses, who were married for more than 10 years, share two children, 15-year-old daughter Apple and 13-year-old son Moses.
