While the 'X-Men: Apocalypse' director agrees to pay $150,000 to Cesar Sanches-Guzman to clear him of the 2017 lawsuit, his lawyer stresses the move is not done as an admission of guilt.

AceShowbiz - Bryan Singer has agreed to pay $150,000 (£118,000) to settle a lawsuit with rape accuser Cesar Sanches-Guzman, despite still maintaining his innocence.

Sanchez-Guzman filed his lawsuit in December 2017, claiming that Singer raped him in 2003 when he was just 17 years old during a yacht party in Seattle. He also alleged the director performed oral sex on him against his will and anally penetrated him.

The accuser filed for bankruptcy back in 2014, and the case was discharged. However, it was later reopened after his creditors claimed he didn't list the potential proceeds from the lawsuit against Singer as an asset.

The filing on Wednesday means the creditors, represented by attorney Rory C. Livesey, will receive $61,000 (£48,000), while additional funds will be used to pay for the "administration of the case". Sanchez-Guzman will receive the remainder to help cover his debt including student loans.

The settlement resolves Sanchez-Guzman's litigation against Singer, despite the director's attorney insisting it's not an admission of guilt.

"The debtor filed a claim against Mr. Singer that he had no basis or legal right to file," Singer's attorney Andrew Brettler told Variety in a statement. "Mr. Singer has denied even knowing this individual, let alone allegedly having interacted with him more than 15 years ago.

"The decision to resolve the matter with the bankruptcy trustee was purely a business one, as litigation costs would well exceed the amount requested by the trustee to pay off the creditors who were owed money when the debtor filed for bankruptcy."

Singer is still facing numerous sexual abuse accusations from teenage boys, published as part of a piece in The Atlantic in January. He has denied the allegations, calling the article a "homophobic smear piece".
