AceShowbiz - Ahead of season 2 premiere of "Krypton", Syfy announced on Wednesday, June 12 that a new spin-off series is currently being developed on the network. The series will be focusing on DC villain Lobo which will make his debut in the sophomore season of "Krypton".
Emmett J. Scanlan is set to reprise the role of the alien bounty hunter on the planned show with Cameron Welsh writing and producing the series. According to the announcement, the Lobo standalone "will put the 'foul-mouthed, dangerous, irascible, intergalactic bounty hunter' front and center."
"Lobo on the page is such a broad character, and the tone of our show is so grounded, so it feels like a bit of a mismatch, but that's kind of what's exciting about it as well," Welsh, who also serves as "Krypton" executive producer/writer, said during San Diego Comic-Con last summer. "He's not going to ride around on space dolphins like he did in the comics, but he's meant to feel like a contrast to everything else we've seen."
Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen in the early '80s, Lobo is depicted as ruthless, bloodthirsty, egotistical and a cosmic porpoise connoisseur. The character first appeared in the comics in 1983 as a clear-cut villain. However, he transitioned into more of an antihero. DC also gave the character his own comic book between 1993 and 1999.
Lobo's appearance on "Krypton" will mark the character's first live-action appearance even though he was previously mentioned on The CW's "Supergirl". Meanwhile, Lobo had popped up in a slew of WarnerBros animated series including "Superman: The Animated Series", "Justice League" and "Young Justice".
In addition to Lobo, Syfy is currently developing a number of series. Among them are "Chucky", "The Woods","Night Gallery", "Wayward Children", "The Raven Cycle" and "Death Is My BFF".
