Glastonbury Withdraws Killdren From Line-Up Over 'Kill Tory Scum' Lyrics
Music

In the wake of their dropping from the music festival, the rave-punk group turn to Twitter to explain that the song in question was created 'to encourage people to vote out the Tories.'

AceShowbiz - Glastonbury bosses have axed a band who told fans to kill members of Britain's ruling Conservative Party in their lyrics.

The rave-punk group Killdren were set to appear on the British music event's Shangri-Hell International TV stage on June 28.

However, organisers of the Shangri-La area of the festival cancelled the booking after it was reported one of their songs contained lyrics including, "Even if it's your dad or your mum, kill Tory (Conservative) scum, kill Tory scum...murder them all to the beat of a drum, kill Tory scum, kill Tory scum."

Shangri-La chiefs announced the decision to pull the group in a statement, which read: "We in no way condone violence and will not allow this matter to overshadow the incredibly inclusive spirit of Glastonbury. As a result we have taken the decision to withdraw the booking."

Their decision came after bosses at the Jo Cox Foundation, set up in honour of a Member of Parliament from Britain's Labour party who was murdered in 2016, condemned the group's lyrics, calling them "completely abhorrent".

Killdren have reacted furiously to the news of the cancellation, retweeting fans' complaints and posting a statement explaining the context of the lyrics.

"the full title of the song in question is Kill Tory Scum (Before They Kill You) and the video questions state-sanctioned violence," they tweeted, before adding, "the song was created in time for the last General Election in 2017 and the 'killing' was encouraging people to vote out the Tories."

Killdren explained the context of 'Kill Tory Scum' lyrics.

The group also asked whether Stormzy, the U.K. rapper playing his first Glastonbury headline slot this year, would be banned from the festival due to his own lyrics and statements criticising Conservative policies.

Overall festival boss Emily Eavis is yet to comment on the controversy. The 2019 Glastonbury Festival will take place at Worthy Farm in Somerset, England, on June 26 - 30.
