Matt Reeves confirms Robert Pattinson's casting as Batman.

Pattinson reportedly beat out Nicholas Hoult for the chance to replace Ben Affleck in "The Batman". Affleck was billed to direct and star in the film, but he stepped down to allow Reeves to reimagine the character.

Pattinson recently emerged as the frontrunner for the film amid reports suggesting both he and Hoult were screen testing for the job.

Sources told Deadline studio bosses at Warner Bros. gave Pattinson the final thumbs up over the weekend.

Affleck was the last actor to step into the batsuit as the DC Comics superhero, aka Bruce Wayne, in 2016's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and 2017's "Justice League". He also made a brief cameo in 2016's "Suicide Squad".

"The Batman" is now expected to begin production in London this autumn (2019), ahead of a summer 2021 release.

Pattinson joins the likes of George Clooney, Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, Christian Bale and Affleck, who have all portrayed Batman on the big screen.
