The 'Mixed Personalities' rapper has been held without bond after he surrendered himself to police in Miramar, Florida following the fatal shootings of YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser in October 2018.

AceShowbiz - Incarcerated rap newcomer YNW Melly has filed court papers seeking to be released on bail until the start of his double murder trial.

The MC, real name Jamell Maurice Demons, surrendered to police in Miramar, Florida, in February following the fatal shootings of his hip-hop rivals Christopher 'YNW Juvy' Thomas Jr. and Anthony 'YNW Sakchaser' Williams in October.

Melly is accused of teaming up with co-defendant Cortlen Henry to shoot the two men, who were old pals, before staging the crime scene to make it look like their deaths were caused by a drive-by shooting.

The 20 year old, who was denied bond following his arrest, pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder in March, and now he is asking the judge overseeing his case to let him go home while he awaits trial.

In legal papers obtained by TMZ, Melly's lawyer insists the rapper is not a flight risk, highlighting the fact that he turned himself in to cops, instead of going on the run, while he also argues his client has no reason to leave the area because his whole family and group of friends are all based in Florida.

The lawyer goes on to allege there is little to tie Melly to the murders as prosecutors do not have a murder weapon, DNA evidence, or witnesses to support their theory.

A judge has yet to rule on the request.

If convicted at trial, prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Melly, who has recently worked with Kanye West on the track "Mixed Personalities".
