AceShowbiz - Tom Petty's widow has hit back at the late rocker's daughters after they filed a lawsuit accusing her of mismanaging the star's estate.
Adria and Annakim Petty are suing the "Free Fallin'" hitmaker's second wife Dana Petty for $5 million (£3.9 million), alleging she ruined the family business, and are seeking to gain full control of their father's estate. He passed away in 2017.
According to documents filed by Dana and obtained by The Blast, however, the mother-of-one insisted her late husband was clear in his instructions that she has sole discretion when it comes to certain decisions, and claimed to have bent over backwards to involve the girls despite "their repeatedly unconscionable behaviour".
Speaking to the publication, Dana's attorney Adam Streisand revealed: "Dana Petty would have done almost anything to avoid all of this. Over the past weeks and months, however, the behaviour of her stepdaughters Adria and Annakim has gone from unconscionable to unhinged - and it needs to be stopped."
"Tom Petty entrusted his wife Dana to choose how all three women could work together to carry on Tom's legacy, but Adria and Annakim thought they could bully Dana and cast her aside," he continued. "In the process, they've threatened, maligned and sued the people Tom worked closely with for decades."
Despite being accused of "gross mismanagement" of the Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' frontman's affairs, Dana insists she is fighting to honour her late-husband's final wishes.
The attorney continued: "(Dana's) loyalty to her husband and the people he loved and trusted gave her the strength to fight, not only for herself, but for the whole Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers family."
