The 'Mary Queen of Scots' actor has been spotted filming the BBC adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic, which will air as a three-part mini-series, in Hampstead, London.

AceShowbiz - Guy Pearce has become the latest actor to tackle Charles Dickens' Ebenezer Scrooge in a new BBC adaptation of "A Christmas Carol".

The Australian actor has been spotted filming the project in Hampstead, London.

Taylor Swift's boyfriend Joe Alwyn has also been spotted on set, but it isn't clear what role he will be playing in writer/director Steven Knight's revamp, which will air as a three-part mini-series.

Knight, who is also producing with his "Taboo" leading man Tom Hardy, recently revealed his plans to tackle Dickens' most famous works over the next few years, telling Collider he hopes to adapt more of the author's novels, including David Copperfield and Oliver Twist.

"What I'm planning to do is adapt 'A Christmas Carol' and four novels and do it over a period of, let's say, six or seven years, and have a repertory of actors...," he says. "I think we'd get the best actors in the world to take part because the Dickens characters are so great... We'd do them in a modern way."

Asked to confirm if his collaborator Hardy would be a part of each Dickens project, Knight added, "I think so."

At the time, reports suggested Hardy would be playing Scrooge, but Pearce has taken on the role of the literary miser.

Scrooge has previously been played onscreen by the likes of Jim Carrey, Patrick Stewart, Michael Caine, George C. Scott, and Alastair Sim.
