During the May 22 instalment of 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show', the wife of Portia de Rossi reflects on the past 16 years hosting the show, and thanks the audience for their continued support.

AceShowbiz - Ellen DeGeneres' talk show "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" will remain on air until at least 2022.

The 61-year-old made the announcement during Wednesday's, May 22, instalment of the show, confirming the series has been extended for a further three years.

"I'm excited to announce that I'll be doing my show for three more years," the comedian enthused. "Mostly because I love doing it so much every day, but also because that takes me to the end of my car lease."

The star, who has hosted the show since it debuted in September 2003, went on to reflect on the past 16 years, and thanked the audience for their continued support.

"(From) the beginning, I said this show was going to be like a relationship," she added. "We've been through the good, the bad, the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' phase. It's been a lot of fun, and 16 years is a pretty good run. Sometimes in a relationship, you need to take a break. But I don't. You're stuck with me. I just signed for three more years."

Ellen shared the clip on her Twitter page ahead of the show's broadcast, with the caption, "Doing this show has been the ride of my life."

The show is currently in its 16th season, and has surpassed the record set by "The Oprah Winfrey Show" to become the most recognised talk show at the Daytime Emmy Awards, with a total of 53 nominations and 31 wins.

The 17th season of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" will kick off on 9 September.
