Ernie Hines, an 81-year-old musician, is accusing the two rappers of sampling his song 'Help Me' on Jay's 'Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life' track 'Paper Chase' without his permission.

AceShowbiz - Jay-Z and Timbaland have been hit with a $2 million (£1.6 million) lawsuit from an 81-year-old musician who claims they sampled one of his songs.

Ernie Hines named the pair, along with Roc-A-Fella Records, Def Jam Recordings, Universal Music Group and Sony Music, in the lawsuit and claimed they used his 1969 song, "Help Me", without his permission.

He alleged Jay-Z sampled it on his song "Paper Chase", which was produced by Timbaland for the 1998 album "Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life".

Hines also alleged that "Help Me" was used on Ginuwine's 1999 track, "Toe 2 Toe", which the heavyweight hip-hop producer also worked on, according to legal documents obtained by The Blast.

The soul musician from Jackson, Mississippi, was reportedly unaware his track was sampled as he is "a senior citizen (and) does not listen to rap music", according to his attorney.

Hines is suing for copyright infringement and demanding at least $2 million (£1.6 million).
