'American Idol' Recap: Meet the Top 3 of Season 17

AceShowbiz - The remaining five singers of "American Idol" season 17 hit the stage in the Sunday, May 12 episode. Each contestant sang three songs that night; one Elton John song, one song chosen by mentor Bobby Jones and a special song dedicated to their heroes in honor of Mother's Day.

Wade Cota opened the night with a performance of "You Are the Best Thing" by Ray LaMontagne which was Bobby's pick for him. The judges loved it, praising him from going outside of his comfort zone. Laci Kaye Booth then hit the stage to sing Miranda Lambert's "The House That Built Me", earning her a standing ovation from the judges. "I'm glad we saved you!" Luke Bryan raved.

Alejandro Aranda, meanwhile, belted out Bob Marley's "No Woman, No Cry". Unsurprisingly, the judges showered him with praises. Performing next was Laine Hardy, who offered an energetic performance of "Can't You See" by The Marshall Tucker Band.

The last performer in the first round was Madison Vanderburg. She sang "What About Us" by Pink which was met with applause from both the judges and the crowd.

For the performance of Elton John's songs, Wade opted for "Rocket Man". Meanwhile, Laci returned to the stage to sing "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting". The judges loved what they heard.

Alejandro chose to sing an emotional rendition of "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word". Luke told him that he was "owning the night". Madison followed it up with a performance of "Your Song" which successfully drove the judges and the crowd crazy. Laine concluded the Elton John round with a performance of "Something About the Way You Look Tonight".

For the last performance that night, Wade dedicated KISS' "Hard Luck Woman" to his mom and stepdad. Laci, meanwhile, flaunted her skills while belting out "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac for her grandmother.

Madison returned with a powerful performance of "Make You Feel My Love" by Bob Dylan. She dedicated the song to her mom and Katy Perry cried as she praised Madison for the emotional performance. Laine later sang The Beatles' "Hey Jude" for his older brother, making the audience go wild.

As for Alejandro, he opted for an original song titled "Blesser". He dedicated it to the the person who gave him his first big break in music. Lionel Richie loved it and even said that they were "witnessing musical history" by watching him.

And now, it was time to announce the 3 singers who moved to the next round. The Top 3 of "American Idol" season 17 were Laine, Madison and Alejandro! Congratulations!
