The 'Guardians of the Galaxy' actor is reportedly in talks to star in the DC-Warner Bros. movie, which will be directed by the 'GOTG' helmer, as King Shark.

AceShowbiz - Michael Rooker is poised to team up with James Gunn again, though not in another Marvel movie. The 64-year-old actor is reportedly in talks to join the cast of Warner Bros.' supervillain movie "The Suicide Squad", which is based on DC Comics.

According to TheWrap, the Yondu Udonta in "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is offered the role of King Shark. The character was first introduced in the comics in 1994 and is depicted as a humanoid shark who is the son of Chondrakha, the God of all Sharks. Following a brief cameo in "Superboy" vol. 3, #0, he is known as a Superboy villain, who has been a member of the Secret Six, the Secret Society of Super-Villains and the Suicide Squad.

Should Rooker sign up for the project, he will star alongside Margot Robbie who will reprise her role as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney who will return as Captain Boomerang, and Joel Kinnaman who is expected to return as Rick Flag. Viola Davis is also said to reprise her role as Amanda Waller, who forms the supervillain group.

Idris Elba has additionally been reported to play a new character to fill the void left by Will Smith, who played Deadshot in 2017's "Suicide Squad". John Cena has been rumored to take the role of Peacemaker, while "Ant-Man" actor David Dastmalchian was recently reported to star as the comic book villain Polka-Dot Man.

Gunn is hired to write the script and direct "The Suicide Squad", which has been described as not a sequel to the 2017 film. The movie is slated to arrive on August 6, 2021 in the United States.

Rooker is perhaps best known for his role as Merle Dixon on "The Walking Dead", before starring in two "Guardians of the Galaxy" movies. He, however, is not expected to return for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3", which will also be directed by Gunn, following his character's fate in the 2017 sequel.
