In one scene, Don Johnson's character Chief Judd is seen speaking of the masked vigilantes, 'We convinced ourselves that they were gone, but they were just hibernating.'

AceShowbiz - HBO has finally released the first trailer for its upcoming "Watchmen" adaptation. Making its way out on May 8, the trailer reveals that there is now a big group of people donning the mask of Rorschach, the hero in the comic book. However, their presence is considered a threat for authorities as superheroes are seen as the outlaws.

In one scene, Chief Judd (Don Johnson) is seen speaking in front of police in yellow masks, "We convinced ourselves that they were gone, but they were just hibernating." The tension rises throughout the trailer, as someone continues to chant "tick, tock, tick, tock" in voiceover. Viewers are also glimpsed a look at a chaotic carnival before Regina King's character forces her way into a trailer and attacks the person inside. At one point, villain Ozymandias (Jeremy Irons) is seen meditating in just a bath robe.

The end of the one-minute clip sees a woman asking Johnson's Judd what he is discussing, to which he replies, "Oh, nothing. Just the end of the world...tick, tock, tick, tock."

Based on the work of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, the planned series is set in an alternate history that separates itself from the original work. Showrunner Damon Lindelof previously said that there would be a slew of new, unknown characters. "Some of the characters will be unknown. New faces. New masks to cover them. We also intend to revisit the past century of Costumed Adventuring through a surprising, yet familiar set of eyes," he said at the time.

Lindelof pens and executive produces the series, while Nicole Kassell serves behind the lens for the pilot in addition to executive producing. Also attached as executive producers are Stephen Williams, Joseph Iberti and Tom Spezialy. White Rabbit produces for HBO in associations with Warner Bros. Television.

"Watchmen" is set to premiere in fall on HBO.
