The pair, who portrayed Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip on 'The Crown', will take on the roles of a young couple struggling with the prospect of having a baby in director Matthew Warchus' 'Lungs'.

AceShowbiz - "The Crown" stars Claire Foy and Matt Smith are to reunite in a new play about climate change.

The actors, who starred as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip in the first two seasons of the hit Netflix show, will appear in Duncan Macmillan's "Lungs" at London's The Old Vic Theatre later this year. In the play, directed by The Old Vic's Artistic Director Matthew Warchus, the pair will star as a young couple who struggle with the prospect of having a baby in a world threatened by climate change and political unrest.

"Hot on the heels of the Extinction Rebellion consciousness-raising demonstrations, there's an extremely limited run of Duncan Macmillan's dazzlingly vibrant and profound two-hander, Lungs, which sees a conflicted couple wrestle with huge contemporary dilemmas surrounding the responsibility of bringing new life into an increasingly precarious world," Warchus said in a statement.

Claire and Matt, who were seen getting dinner together in London earlier this month, have remained friends since their time on "The Crown" came to an end in 2017, when they were replaced by Olivia Colman and Tobias Menzies ahead of the story moving on to later in the Queen's reign in the upcoming third season. The pair's friendship also survived a widely publicised pay gap row, following the revelation that Matt was being paid more than Claire.
