David Dastmalchian joins the cast of James Gunn's upcoming movie reportedly as the comic book villain Polka-Dot Man, who is among new additions to the squad.

AceShowbiz - "The Suicide Squad" is welcoming another new face to the squad. "Ant-Man" actor David Dastmalchian has reportedly closed a deal to join the cast of the upcoming Warner Bros. movie as the comic book villain Polka-Dot Man, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Polka-Dot Man is a lesser known supervillain who fights Batman and Robin early in their careers. He is known for committing grandiose crimes revolving around a bizarre theme of polka dots. He also sports a costume with Polka-Dot patter which conceals a variety of hidden weapons.

Polka-Dot Man is among new additions to the squad, which will reportedly feature new faces such as Ratcatcher, Peacemaker and King Shark, in addition to returning characters Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney). Joel Kinnaman is also said to return as Rick Flag, though it was previously believed that he wouldn't be coming back.

Will Smith won't return as Deadshot. Idris Elba was later recruited to fill the void, but he will not take over the role of Deadshot like it was initially believed. The "Luther" actor's role is currently unknown. Meanwhile, John Cena was recently rumored to be in talks for the role of Peacemaker, but it's not confirmed yet.

The upcoming "Suicide Squad" movie is described as not a sequel to the 2017 film. "It's not 'Suicide Squad 2'. It is not a sequel. I will leave that alone but, yes, it's called 'The Suicide Squad'," producer Peter Safran has confirmed.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn has been tapped to write and direct the upcoming movie. The new "Suicide Squad" movie is slated to arrive on August 6, 2021 in the United States.

David Dastmalchian has portrayed Kurt in Marvel Studios' "Ant-Man" (2015) and its sequel "Ant-Man and the Wasp" (2018). He is also known for his role as Murdoc on CBS' series "MacGyver" and as Abra-Kadabra on The CW's "The Flash".
