The Heimdall of Marvel Cinematic Universe was originally tapped to join the new installment in the 'Suicide Squad' franchise to replace Will Smith as Deadshot.

AceShowbiz - Deadshot isn't going to be featured in "The Suicide Squad" after all. After Will Smith dropped out of the upcoming movie, it was reported that Idris Elba was in talks to replace the exiting actor in the role. But this isn't the case anymore.

According to Variety, all parties including director James Gunn agreed to drop the character, who was one of the original members of the titular team in the 2016 movie. Elba, however, will still be a part of the upcoming movie, playing a new character.

/Film further reports that the decision was made because there was concern over "disrespecting Smith, who helped bring this character to life for the first time, by replacing him with Elba." There's also hope that if there's more "Suicide Squad" films in the future and Smith is willing to reprise the role, the door is always open for him to return.

Currently, there's now word on which character that will be played by Elba, as Warner Bros. remains mum on the report.

Smith, who led the cast ensemble of "Suicide Squad", dropped out of the upcoming movie due to scheduling conflict. He and the studio allegedly reached the decision amicably and there's no hard feeling between both sides.

Producer Peter Safran confirmed to ComicBook.com that the next installment is called "The Suicide Squad" and it's not a sequel. "It's called 'The Suicide Squad'," said the filmmaker who also produced "Shazam!". "It's not 'Suicide Squad 2'. It is not a sequel. I will leave that alone but, yes, it's called 'The Suicide Squad'."

Though it's billed as not a sequel to "Suicide Squad", some of the original stars are still expected to return. Margot Robbie is assumed to return as Harley Quinn, while Viola Davis and Jai Courtney are expected to reprise their roles as Captain Boomerang and Amanda Waller, respectively. Joel Kinnaman is also said to return as Rick Flag, though it was previously believed that he wouldn't be coming back.

Gunn, who was hired by Warner Bros. after Disney fired him, is still attached to write and direct "The Suicide Squad" although he has been reinstated as the helmer for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3". The new "Suicide Squad" movie is slated to arrive on August 6, 2021 in the United States.
