Kicking off the first night of Battle Rounds are Team John Legend's Matthew Johnson and Shawn Sounds, who hit the stage to belt out 'Never Too Much'.

AceShowbiz - Now that the Blinds Auditions for "The Voice" season 16 were over, the NBC singing competition brought its contestants to the next round, Battle Rounds. The first singers to have face-off were Matthew Johnson and Shawn Sounds from Team John Legend.

With the help of advisor Khalid, the two performed a stunning duet of "Never Too Much" by Luther Vandross. "You both are fantastic singers. Didn't miss a note," John raved. However, he needed to pick one of them to move to the next round and he chose Shawn as the winner. Adam Levine and Kelly Clarkson immediately hit their buttons to steal Matthew and he eventually picked Team Kelly.

The next battle was between Team Kelly's Mikaela Astel and The Bundys, the show's first trio. They opted to sing a soulful rendition of Eva Cassidy's "Songbird" as they received help from advisor Kelsea Ballerini. Mikaela seemed nervous during the performance, making Kelly choose The Bundys as the winner for the battle.

Next up were Gyth Rigdon and Rod Stokes from Team Blake Shelton. They belted out Mitchell Tenpenny's Drunk Me. It was a tough call for Blake but he eventually decided to keep Gyth on his team. But Rod's journey didn't end there as Adam stole Rod. "I'm a fan of what you do… I think you're amazing," he told Rod.

Later, Team Adam's Domenic Hayes and Trey Rose hit the stage to sing Aloe Blacc's "I Need a Dollar" after working with Adam and advisor Charlie Puth. Blake loved it, calling it an "incredibly even battle." Eventually, Adam chose Domenic over Trey.

Savannah Brister and Maelyn Jarmon from Team John then followed it up with a duet of "When We Were Young". The two sound beautiful together but he chose to send Maelyn to the next round.

Rounding out the night was the face-off between Team Kelly's Jej Vinson and Beth Griffith-Manley. The two hit the stage to offer their take on Labrinth's "Jealous", much to everyone's liking. After struggling to make her decision, Kelly announced Jej as the winner. John later saved Beth by stealing him for his team.
