Through a Twitter post, the 'Hocus Pocus' star reinforces the series co-creator's announcement at Los Angeles' PaleyFest that she and Judith Light have signed on for the new comedy series.

AceShowbiz - Bette Midler is returning to the small screen to star in TV mogul Ryan Murphy's new comedy series "The Politician".

The "Hocus Pocus" star and fellow actress Judith Light have both signed on for the upcoming show, in which Broadway actor Ben Platt will feature as Payton Hobart, a wealthy California teenager who embarks on a mission to be elected as his high school's student body president, as part of his wider mission to one day win the White House.

Co-creator Murphy shared the casting news during an appearance at Los Angeles' PaleyFest on Saturday, March 23, and Bette celebrated the announcement with a Twitter post on Sunday.

"#RyanMurphy gave the 'Diva Update' last night...," she wrote. "Yes, Judith Light and I have joined the fantastic cast of The Politician premiering on Netflix Sept 27. Great writing, great fun and great insight! See you on TV!!"

They join an all-star cast, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Lange, Zoey Deutch, and Lucy Boynton.

Meanwhile, "Pose" writer/director Janet Mock is also set to take charge of an upcoming episode of "The Politician".

The role will mark Midler's first time working with Murphy, while Light previously scored an Emmy nomination for her work in his 2018 series, "The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story".

Midler's previous TV credits include guest appearances on "Murphy Brown" and "The Nanny", and starring in her own short-lived TV comedy Bette, from 2000 to 2001.
