The disgraced singer is placed 'on 24-hour observation' after he was arrested for the second time for failing to pay more than $160,000 in back child support.

AceShowbiz - R. Kelly is reportedly in a "mental downward spiral" after being back in jail for unpaid child support. The singer was taken into custody on Wednesday, March 6 and was transported back into Cook County Jail for owing more than $160,000 in child support to his ex-wife.

With his financial issues in addition to his legal woes, Kelly is "suicidal." A source tells Radar Online, "We are dealing with a man who believes he lost everything. He's suicidal. I don't know how much more he can or will take."

While the authorities do not confirm if he's suicidal, Sophia Ansari, a spokesperson for the Cook County Sheriff's Office, reveals that the "I Believe I Can Fly" hitmaker is "on 24-hour observation."

Kelly offered to pay up to $60,000 for the child support during a court appearance on Wednesday, but the judge demanded the full amount. His spokesman Darryl Johnson explained, "He can't pay. He hasn't worked in a long time. He just didn't have the money."

Detailing how serious his financial situation is right now, a so-called insider says, "He doesn't have a single dollar to his name right now. Zero. Why in the world would a superstar choose to eat at McDonald's right after being released from jail?"

Another source, who is said to be a friend of Kelly's, claims, "His financial situation is probably a new low for any celebrity." The friend adds that the embattled star still plans to sue the people behind "Surviving R. Kelly" that highlights sexual abuse allegations against him.

Kelly will not be released until he pays the full amount of the child support he owes to his ex-wife.

Kelly was previously arrested in February for 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. He spent three days behind bars because he was unable to post $100k bond or 10% of his $1 million bail. He was released after a friend helped him pay the bond.
