The 'Beauty and the Beast' actress is said to be the frontrunner for a second female lead, which is dubbed a physically demanding role.

AceShowbiz - Emma Watson could join the list of Marvel's female heroines in the MCEU. Words are the British actress is being eyed for a second female lead role in the "Black Widow" movie, which has Scarlett Johansson on board to reprise her role as the title character.

According to That Hashtag Show, the 28-year-old star is the frontrunner for the role, which is said to be as physically demanding as Johansson's part. The "Harry Potter" alum reportedly has been prominently discussed in conversations between director Cate Shortland, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and producer Brad Winderbaum.

That, however, doesn't necessarily mean that Watson has secured the role. Others actresses are also in contention for the part. They include Alice Englert ("Beautiful Creatures", "Ratched"), Dar Zuzovsky ("Hostages", "Neighborhood") and Florence Pugh. Both Englert and Zuzovsky are said to have auditioned for the role and made a strong impression on the studio's execs. Pugh, interestingly, stars alongside Watson in the upcoming "Little Women" movie remake.

Jac Schaeffer ("The Hustle") has been hired to pen the script of "Black Widow". Filming could begin sometime this year as the studio eyes a 2020 release for the solo movie. The movie will reportedly be set before the first Avengers movie, which hit cinemas in 2012.

Johansson reportedly received a big paycheck, $15 million, for the movie, as much as Chris Evans earned for "Captain America: Civil War" and Chris Hemsworth earned for "Thor: Ragnarok". She will first return as Black Widow in "Avengers: Endgame", which will hit theaters across the nation on April 27.

Emma Watson is best known for portraying Hermione Granger in the movie adaptation of J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" book series. Her other notable film credits include "The Bling Ring", "Noah" and "Beauty and the Beast (2017)". She has completed the filming of "Little Women", which is directed by Greta Gerwig ("Lady Bird").
