The 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' star issues an apology for saying that children who are raised by same-sex couple will be 'severely malnourished.'

AceShowbiz - Terry Crews recently landed in hot water after saying that children who are raised by same-sex couples would not have enough love. Realizing that his comment offend many people, the "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" star issued an apology over the weekend.

It all started last week, when Crews criticized an article titled "Why Does Obama Scold Black Boys?" which was written by human rights lawyer Derecka Purnell. The actor took issue with the fact that the article was written by a woman as he believed that women would not know how to teach boys to "grow into successful young men." He added, "MEN NEED TO HOLD ANOTHER MEN ACCOUNTABLE."

Over the next week, the conversation began to evolve to the roles mothers and fathers play in their children's lives. "I've reiterated many times that same sex couples and single parents can successfully raise a child," he tweeted. "But I believe paternal AND maternal love are like vitamins and minerals to humanity. No matter where you get that paternal and maternal love. MY purpose is to give paternal love."

His comment didn't sit well with many people, with one hitting back, "Love is not gendered, a child will not starve with only one gender loving them." In response to the user, Terry said, "But they will be severely malnourished." And his response apparently only made things worse because he received more backlash than he already did.

"Dear @terrycrews My 12 year old twins are not 'severely malnourished' Please stop encouraging the bullying of children of #LGBTQ parents," one wrote as one other pointed out that "many abusive parents who mistreat and neglect their kids" are straight. "This is a stone cold take," the said user continued.

Following the backlash, Terry eventually apologized for making the comment and deleted the tweet. "I apologize to anyone who was hurt by my 'severely malnourished' tweet. It was in response to someone who said kids wouldn't 'starve,' " he said. "It was poorly worded so I deleted it."
