The 'World War Z' actor asked for the 'Friends' alum's forgiveness and she gave him, but he still has one major regret about the way he handled their divorce.

AceShowbiz - Many were disappointed when Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston announced their separation in 2005 and if he could turn back time, he would change a thing about it. Well, maybe he would not reverse their split, but at least he would have handled their divorce differently.

A source says that while the 55-year-old actor "doesn't like to dwell on the past," he still has one major regret about the way he ended their marriage. The source says in the new issue of Us Weekly that Brad "of course wishes he'd handled the end of their marriage in a more thoughtful manner."

Though a divorce is never pretty, there's apparently no bitterness left between the exes. "He asked for Jen's forgiveness a long time ago and she gave it," the source goes on revealing.

The two recently reunited at Jennifer's star-studded 50th birthday party. "Brad gave Jen a card and a hug," the so-called insider dishes on the former couple's interaction, adding that many guests were "surprised" to see him at the bash.

"Brad seemed very hesitant [at first] - all eyes were on him," a source previously said, but added that he soon got comfortable at the party attended by A-list stars like George Clooney and his wife Amal, Kate Hudson, Sandra Bullock, Robert Downey Jr., Reese Witherspoon, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer's ex-boyfriend John Mayer among others.

Brad and Jennifer reportedly reconnected after he reached out to her following her mother Nancy Dow's passing in May 2016, months prior to his separation from his second wife Angelina Jolie. "Brad contacted Jen after her mom died, and she was touched that he knew what a difficult time it was," a source recently told Us Weekly.

They're reportedly getting close after they split up from the respective spouses. Jennifer broke up from her second husband Justin Theroux at the end of 2017. "Brad wanted to support and celebrate Jen by attending her birthday party," the source said.

Another source tells HollywoodLife.com, "Brad felt good seeing Jennifer again and spending time with her at her birthday party. Brad has done a lot of work on himself since being in a relationship with her, so he feels like a different guy. He also still has a lot of love for Jen, his [first] ex-wife. He hopes attending her birthday party may be the start of a new beginning in their journey together. He is trying to keep an open mind about everything."

"Brad is in a great place and wants to share his life with people he cares about and to become friends with Jen again would be a big win for him," the source continues. "It's really cool that he can mend fences, and as he gets older, he wants to be in a place where everything is good, and being friends with Jen again and having that friendship again is very important to him."
