The 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' helmer debunks the rumors which say that he departs the planned new trilogy to focus on other projects.

AceShowbiz - Rian Johnson is still working on a new "Star Wars" trilogy despite reports stating otherwise. The 45-year-old filmmaker took to Twitter to set things straight after rumors swirled that he's no longer attached to the planned trilogy.

A site called Super Bro Movies was the first to report Johnson's supposed departure from the new "Star Wars" trilogy. The site claimed that Johnson walked away from the franchise to focus on other projects, while other news outlets suggested that it was because of fan backlash to "Star Wars: The Last Jedi", which Johnson directed in 2016 for a 2017 release.

After the news was brought into his attention by Twitter users, the director replied to one follower on Wednesday, February 13, "No it isn't true, I'm still working on the trilogy. With all due respect to the movie bros, who I'm sure are lovely kind bros with good fraternal intentions."

The new "Star Wars" trilogy was first announced in November 2017 with Johnson on board to direct the movies. The upcoming trilogy will be separate from the existing saga, which focuses on Luke Skywalker. The new trilogy will introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored. The movies are expected to come out after 2020.

Johnson's "The Last Jedi" received positive reviews from critics, with an approval rating of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie, however, divided fans, with some seeing it as too progressive and disliking its humor, plot or character arcs. The movie went on to gross over $1 billion worldwide, becoming the second highest-grossing film in the franchise, behind "Star Wars: The Force Awakens".
