Super Bowl 2019: Internet Comes at Cardi B Over Pepsi Spot After Turning Down Halftime Gig
Celebrity

'If you don't support the NFL why do the Pepsi commercial for Super Bowl and perform at pre super bowl parties???' a fan wonders.

AceShowbiz - Cardi B was applauded by many after she declined to perform during the halftime show of Super Bowl LIII as her way to support athlete Colin Kaepernick. However, some people started to question the "Bodak Yellow" hitmaker's decision to star in a Super Bowl commercial for Pepsi.

Alongside Steve Carell and hip-hop star Lil Jon, the ad featured the mother of one promoting the drink using her famed catchphrase "Okurrrr." Some fans, though, were having a hard time to understand why the female emcee accepted the commercial gig offer.

"So Cardi B won't do a halftime peformance (which the performer pays for I believe) for protest reasons but will no doubt be paid for a Pepsi #SuperBowl ad? Ok," one Twitter user said. Another critic added, "So Cardi B says she passed up tons of $ dor not performing at the SB. Protest for Colin. Doesn't mind the Pepsi CM green #SuperBowl."

One other snarked, "If you don't support the NFL why do the Pepsi commercial for Super Bowl and perform at pre super bowl parties??? Pot meet kettle. @iamcardib." Another fan, however, defended the "Money" raptress, explaining, "It's called a contractual obligation - she signed a marketing deal with Pepsi. She doesn't have a say as to WHEN the ad campaign airs. There is ZERO affiliation between @iamcardib and the @NFL and none is implied. Worry about #Northam not @Kaepernick7."

The negative responses aside, many others were loving the new commercial. "Pepsi commercial with Lil Jon and Cardi B is my fave Super Bowl commercial already no doubt," said a fan. "Wow @iamcardib + @SteveCarell in the same @pepsi commercial is my sexuality, OK #SuperBowl," another fan tweeted.

In an interview with Associated Press, Cardi revealed that she was offered to perform during the halftime of the annual sport event, joining headliner Maroon 5, Travis Scott (II) and Big Boi. Admitting that she had mixed feelings of the offer, Cardi shared, "My husband [Offset], he loves football. His kids play football. It's really hard for him."

"He really wants to go to the Super Bowl, but he can't go to the Super Bowl, because he's got to stand for something. You have to sacrifice that. You got to sacrifice a lot of money to perform. But there's a man who sacrificed his job for us, so we got to stand behind him," she added.
