Backstreet Boys Sets New Records on Billboard 200 With 'DNA'

Arriving atop the weekly chart, the five-piece group's latest album marks their first No. 1 album in nearly 20 years.

AceShowbiz - It's been nearly 20 years since Backstreet Boys last topped Billboard 200. The five-piece group's new album "DNA" arrives atop the chart, marking their third No. 1 album. The effort racked up 234,000 equivalent album units, including 227,000 in traditional album sales, in the week ending February 1, according to Nielsen Music.

Backstreet Boys last topped the chart in 2000, when "Black & Blue" spent two weeks atop the chart. That's the longest gap between No. 1s for a group since 2010 when Sade returned at No. 1 after more than 24 years with "Soldier of Love".

Meanwhile, the sales of "DNA" marks the biggest for a pop album in nearly a year, since Justin Timberlake's "Man of the Woods" arrived with 293,000 units last year. It additionally marks the group's largest sales week since 2005's "Never Gone" sold 291,000 copies. Not stopping there, the album also has the largest traditional sales week for any effort since Carrie Underwood's "Cry Pretty" racked up 251,000 copies last year.

Back to this week's chart, Future's "Future Hndrxx Presents: The WIZRD" falls down from its top spot to No. 2 with 56,000 units in its second week. A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie's "Hoodie SZN" holds its No. 3 position with 47,000 units, while the soundtrack album to "A Star Is Born" ascends four spots to No. 4 with 40,000 units.

After first full week of chart tracking activity, Weezer's self-titled album, which consists of cover songs, vaults to No. 5 with 39,000 units. The set additionally has the biggest stream of the week with 12.5 million on-demand audio streams.

The rest of the top ten mostly consists of former chart-topping albums. Post Malone's "Beerbongs & Bentleys" switches spots with Meek Mill's "Championships". While the former album moves to No. 6 with 36,000 units, Mill's latest album descends to No. 7 with nearly 36,000 units. On the other hand, 21 Savage's "I Am > I Was" climbs down to No. 8 with 35,000 units.

Travis Scott (II)'s "Astroworld" and "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" soundtrack album round out the top ten for this week, taking the No. 9 and No. 10 with 34,000 units and nearly 34,000 units respectively.
