The actor portraying young Albert Einstein in 'Genius' will star alongside Jena Malone and Marc Maron in the movie project to be directed by Gabriel Range.

AceShowbiz - Actor Johnny Flynn has been cast to portray late singer David Bowie in a new biopic.

The South African-born Brit, who is known for roles in the film "Clouds of Sils Maria" and in Pablo Picasso TV drama series "Genius", will star alongside Jena Malone, who will play Bowie's first wife, Angie, in "Stardust (2020)".

The movie will centre on the rock icon's first visit to America in 1971, a trip credited with inspiring Bowie to create his alter ego Ziggy Stardust.

Comedian Marc Maron will also appear as Bowie's record company publicist in the film, which is slated to start production in June (2019). Christopher Bell has written the script, while Gabriel Range will direct.

It is unclear if the biopic will feature Bowie's music, but news of the project comes days after it was revealed that lost footage of the hitmaker's first performance as Stardust had been uncovered by a fan. It was believed the late rocker's appearance on a 1972 episode of British series "Lift Off With Ayshea" had been lost forever after the show's tapes were wiped, but a fan recently found a copy he had recorded.

Film researchers are now working to remaster the footage so it can be used in upcoming BBC2 documentary "David Bowie: Finding Fame".

"For fans, it is something of a Holy Grail," Francis Whately, the documentary's producer and director, told the Radio Times. "It would fall apart if we played it, so it's had to be very carefully restored. It will be a real coup if it comes off."

"Finding Fame" will feature previously unheard Bowie recordings, including the singer's 1965 BBC audition with his band The Lower Third.
