AceShowbiz - HBO has unearthed the first official look at Jude Law and John Malkovich-starring "The New Pope". The new image features Law reprising his "The Young Pope" role first American Pope, Lenny Belardo, as he is joined by new co-star John Malkovich.

In the first-look photo of the upcoming mini series, which is the follow-up to the acclaimed 2016 series, the two-time Academy Award nominee is pictured flashing an eerie smirk at the camera. Standing behind him is the "Bird Box" actor, who is assumed to be taking on the role of the titular new pope.

Additionally, the premium cable network has announced the full cast of the new series. Joining Jaw and Malkovich are returning stars Silvio Orlando ("La stanza del figlio", "Il papà di Giovanna"), Javier Camara ("Talk to Her", "Narcos"), Cecile de France ("Haute Tension", "Here After"), Ludivine Sagnier ("Remi", "Lola et ses freres") and Maurizio Lombardi ("All the Money in the World", "Name of the Rose").

"The New Pope" will also feature a slew of newcomers including Mark Ivanir, Henry Goodman ("Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."), Ulrich Thomsen ("The World is Not Enough") and Massimo Ghini ("Tea With Mussolini").

Written by Oscar-winning director Paolo Sorrentino, Italian co-writer Umberto Contarello and Stefano Bises, "The New Pope" is set in the world of modern papacy. Hailing from HBO-Sky-CANAL+, it is produced by Lorenzo Mieli and Mario Gianani for Wildside and co-produced by Mediapro. Sorrentino also returns to serve behind the lens for all eight episodes of the limited series.

HBO has yet to announce the premiere date of "The New Pope".
