During her appearance on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!', the 'Friends' alum reveals that the term has led to some confusion in the past.

AceShowbiz - Courteney Cox admits that she is uncomfortable calling boyfriend Johnny McDaid as a "partner." The "Friends" alum explains that the struggle comes from the fact that the term is used by people to call their same-gender lover in her hometown of Alabama.

During the Tuesday, January 8 episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!", the actress revealed that her boyfriend uses the word a lot. "He's my partner, that's what he calles it, 'my partner,' " she said to Jimmy Kimmel. "I'm from Alabama, so you don't really say partner unless you're in the same sex. ... Saying partner is difficult for me!"

She also explained that the term has caused some confusion in the past. "I was in Atlanta not that long ago and I was like, 'Oh, I'm supposed to meet my partner in section F,' and they were like, 'Oh, I'm sure she's going to be there, don't worry about it,' " she laughed. "Not that it matters, but it's just a different way to speak."

Cox and McDaid has been together since January 2014. They temporarily split in 2015 but they got back together again the next year. Back in October 2018, Cox coyly responded to a question about their marriage plan by saying that they were married "in her heart". Her partner also responded sweetly when he was asked what that meant, "We have one every morning when we look at each other."

McDaid also claimed that Cox never left her mind. "My thoughts are never without Court," he said to the magazine. "She's my best friend. She's my partner, in everything. When I write her poems, it's just an extension of how I feel every second anyway, and that's true for me."

The Snow Patrol musician also also gushed over Cox in a 2016 interview. "I don't know if you can put a label on what makes us work, but I know that I've never loved like I love this woman, so if that's enough, then that's enough," McDaid said to PEOPLE.
