The 'Guardians of the Galaxy' actor joins Timothee Chamalet and Rebecca Ferguson, who will also be starring in Legendary's take on the Frank Herbert novel.

AceShowbiz - Dave Bautista is joining the cast of "Dune", Legendary's adaptation of Frank Herbert's 1965 science fiction novel of the same name. According to Variety, Bautista will be portraying a character called "Beast" Rabban.

The story of "Dune" is set in a distant future of an interstellar empire, where the Noble Houses fight over a desert planet called Arrakis that produced a rare, important spice. The spice called Melange can only be found in Arrakis and it is so rare that the spice became a form of currency in the empire. When consumed, Melange improves health, extends life, and can bestow a temporary clairvoyance, allowing the consumer to see a limited future.

The plot thickens as the Noble Houses fight each other, unaware that it is a trap set by the selfish Emperor who wants both the spice and the throne for himself.

Also joining the cast are Timothee Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson. Chalamet will be playing the lead, Paul Atreides, who has a powerful mental ability and is hailed as Messiah as he leads an army to dethrone the emperor. Meanwhile, Ferguson will be playing Lady Jessica, Paul's mother who will help him throughout his journey.

Denis Villenueve will both direct the movie and co-write the script together with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts. He will also produce the movie with Mary Parent and Cale Boyter. Meanwhile, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, Thomas Tull and Kim Herbert will serve as executive producers. The creative consultant will be Kevin J. Anderson.

This will mark the second time that Bautista and Villenueve work together. Previously, they worked in "Blade Runner 2049", in which the bodybuilder played the role of Sapper Morton.

It looks like Bautista's 2019 is going to be busy as he will star in "Escape Plan 3: Devil's Station" and return to Marvel's Universe in the upcoming box office "Avengers: Endgame". He is also set to appear in action comedy films "Stuber" and "My Spy".
