The younger sister of late director Garry Marshall, who passed away on December 18 at the age of 75, was cremated just one day after Christmas.

AceShowbiz - Actress-turned-director Penny Marshall died of heart failure.

The "Laverne & Shirley" star passed away on December 18 (2018), and now it has been revealed her death was a result of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

According to The Blast, Marshall was cremated the day after Christmas (December 26) and her remains were given to her sister Ronny. It is unclear if a public memorial will be held, but after her death her family paid tribute to the actress and director and lauded her accomplishments in a statement.

"Our family is heartbroken over the passing of Penny Marshall...," the statement read. "As an actress, her work on Laverne & Shirley broke ground featuring blue-collar women entertaining America in prime time. She was a comedic natural with a photographic memory and an instinct for slapstick."

Many of Penny's collaborators, including Madonna and Tom Hanks, also praised the star.

"Lucky to have known you and worked with you Penny Marshall," Madonna wrote on Instagram. "Your Talent was as BIG as your Heart! And you were a Trailblazer for Women In Hollywood. GOD BLESS you and your family!"

"Goodbye, Penny," Hanks added. "Man, did we laugh a lot! Wish we still could."
