The former First Lady also ends Hillary Clinton's run for the title in the poll, while her husband Barack Obama surpasses President Donald Trump as Most Admired Man of the year.

AceShowbiz - Former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama has beaten Oprah Winfrey to be named the Most Admired Woman of 2018.

The "Becoming" author dethroned another First Lady and former presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton to claim the top spot on the annual Gallup survey, with Michelle earning 15 per cent of the public's vote.

Media mogul Winfrey, who recently interviewed Michelle during the Chicago, Illinois stop of her book press tour, takes second place with five per cent, just ahead of Clinton, who slips from first to third position with four per cent, after leading the poll for the past 17 years.

She ties with current First Lady, former model Melania Trump.

Other notable entries include Britain's Queen Elizabeth II, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, whose life story is chronicled in new movie "On the Basis of Sex", and comedienne Ellen DeGeneres, who all picked up two per cent of the vote.

Meanwhile, Michelle's husband, America's 44th President Barack Obama, beats current leader Donald Trump to be crowned the Most Admired Man of the year with 19 per cent versus the real estate mogul and reality TV star's 13 per cent.
