Despite the irreplaceable loss, the former 'Dancing with the Stars' contestant, her brother Robert and their mother Terri are determined to carry on her father's legacy and make him proud.

AceShowbiz - Steve Irwin's death twelve years ago may have shaken the world, but nobody is more affected than his family. Even now, the Irwin family, especially Bindi Irwin, are still feeling the absence of the patriarch.

On the cover story of PEOPLE magazine's January 2019 issue, Bindi and Robert Irwin opened up about their life without their father. "I remember people coming up to me and saying, 'I'm sorry for you loss, sweetheart. Time heals all wounds.' But that's not true," she said. "It's like losing a part of your heart, and when you've lost that, you never get it back."

However, Steve's absence will not hinder his message of environmental and wildlife conservation that is being spread by his family. The Irwin family are dedicated to following in the patriarch's footsteps and carrying his legacy. They are now expanding their zoo and traveling around the world to raise money for their non-profit conservation Wildlife Warriors. In addition, the Irwins will made appearance on new Animal Planet series "Crikey! It's the Irwins" every Sunday at 8 P.M.

With all the achievement they had within their pockets, Bindi wished her dad is proud. "I sure hope dad would be proud," she said. "We really do try every day to make him proud and follow him in his footsteps. I hope that somewhere he's out there going, 'Yes! You did good!' "

Meanwhile, Robert expressed his love for his job and his home. "No matter where we go, or what we do, we'll always come back here," he said. "This is our passion. It's a part of us and Australia Zoo will always be home."

Steve, known internationally for his wildlife documentary series "The Crocodile Hunter", died while working on underwater documentary titled "Ocean's Deadliest" in an attack by a stingray. He died on September 4, 2006, when Bindi was only 8 years old and Robert was 2.
