In a recent interview, the 'Star Trek' icon shares how he believes that women use the movement 'when they don't get an autograph, when they don't get their way,' among other things.

AceShowbiz - William Shatner is refusing to back down after courting controversy by suggesting some women are using the #MeToo movement to exact revenge on men they begrudge.

The "Star Trek" icon hit headlines over the weekend, December 21-23 after claiming the campaign against sexual misconduct, which went viral in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal last year (17), has since gotten out of hand.

"I've got three daughters and I'm glad that they have more opportunity," he told DailyMail TV as he began by praising the reason for the movement.

However, Shatner went on the allege that some females had taken their activism too far, and called for a way of policing accusations made without merit.

"At the same time, it's become hysterical," he continued. "It's a whole new culture. The whole business has changed. The whole man-woman relationship has changed to a severe degree".

The 87-year-old continued to discuss the hot topic in a subsequent Twitter exchange with followers, insisting he's witnessed firsthand how some have taken advantage of the movement.

"My issue is that women use me too as a weapon when they don't get an autograph, when they don't get their way, etc & the circus that ensues is comical and sad. aka hysterical," he posted.

"I keep asking who is policing it because there's a lot using it for their own personal vendettas that have nothing to do with the points of the movement," Shatner added, claiming, "it started with trying to right noble injustices & descended into chaos".

As he faced continued pushback from a number of social media users, the veteran actor made it clear he was only referring to the few who are undermining the whole effort.

"I basically said it's going too far with some," he explained. "I have 3 daughters so of course those issues concern me. It's the ones co-opting it for personal vendettas. It needs to be policed or it will become akin to the French Revolution".
