AceShowbiz - Nicki Minaj is lending her voice for a new "Angry Birds" movie. The self-declared Harajuku Barbie has joined the voice cast of Sony Pictures and Columbia Pictures' upcoming animation "The Angry Birds Movie 2", Variety reports.
She is added to the cast which will feature returning stars, including Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Bill Hader, Danny McBride and Peter Dinklage. Additionally, Leslie Jones, Rachel Bloom, Awkwafina, Sterling K. Brown, Eugenio Derbez, Lil Rel Howery, Dove Cameron and Zach Woods have been tapped to voice characters in "The Angry Birds Movie" sequel.
Minaj's role is currently unknown. She is no stranger to voicing character in an animated movie, having joined the cast of "Ice Age: Continental Drift" as a mammoth named Steffie. She also starred in 2014's comedy film "The Other Woman" and "Barbershop 3" a.k.a. "Barbershop: The Next Cut".
The ten-time Grammy Award-nominated artist released her last studio album, "Queen", in August of this year. It peaked at No. 2 on Billboard 200. The 36-year-old rapper is scheduled to embark on a co-headlining tour called "The Nicki Wrld Tour" in 2019. The European leg will start February and run until March with Juice WRLD as the co-headliner.
"The Angry Birds Movie 2" has Thurop Van Orman and John Rice on board as directors. Peter Ackerman writes the script, while John Cohen and Mary Ellen Bauder Andrews serve as producers. David Maisel and Catherine Winder are executive producers.
The movie is scheduled for a U.S. release on August 16, 2019 to mark the 10th anniversary of the hit video game. The first movie, which was released in 2016, was a commercial success, grossing $350 million worldwide against its $73 million budget despite mixed reviews from critics.
