AceShowbiz - Singer Kehlani has opened up about her struggle with prenatal depression as she approaches the third trimester of her pregnancy.
The 23-year-old surprised her fans in October when she announced she was expecting her first child, and on Sunday night, December 23 she wrote a lengthy post on Instagram revealing that her pregnancy hasn't been as easy her social media accounts have made it seem.
"The internet makes everything look lovely and wonderful. 2 days away from the 3rd trimester and this has been the hardest thing ever," she confessed. "From not knowing anything about prenatal depression nor understanding it while it's been hitting me like a bag of bricks, to being very isolated and alone internally and externally these days, to just the normal terrible sleep/no appetite/anxiety.
"The struggle to recognize your body in the mirror, the struggle to not feel like no matter what, no one understands. it terrifies me a lot to be this vulnerable online but i get support (which is EVERYTHING to me) & am told the support by me in this form is helpful."
She also gave those suffering from depression during their pregnancies her tricks for coping with it, revealing that it helps her to be open and talk about it with others, meditate, read, get up and outside and listen to music all the time.
Besides a picture of her showing off her growing bump in a nude bra and tie dye pants, she concluded that she enters her third trimester on Christmas Day and she's "ready for this final round."
Kehlani, full name Kehlani Parrish, has been candid about her dark thoughts since she attempted suicide in 2016 after being accused of cheating on her boyfriend with her ex, claims she denied.
The singer, who identifies as pansexual, previously opened up in November about the backlash she received from the LGBTQ community for having a baby with a man. The father of her child is guitarist Javie Young-White, who is bisexual.
