'Mama's Family' Star Ken Berry's Ex-Wife Confirms His Death

Jackie Joseph-Lawrence credits the late actor's 'dear partner' for bringing him laughter in a statement announcing the beloved sitcom star's passing.

As hospital spokesperson Patricia Aidem confirmed the report, Jackie told TMZ that Ken had been "in and out of the hospital" in recent weeks. According to the "Gremlins" actress, her ex-husband had been plagued with heart problems for several months. And even though he had a surgery done in October, his condition continued to worsen.

Ken Berry, the American actor who is best known for his roles in TV series like "F Troop" and "Mama's Family", has died at the age of 85 in Burbank, California. The sad news was confirmed by his ex-wife, Jackie Joseph-Lawrence, on Saturday, December 1.

In a short statement she posted on Facebook, Jackie wrote, "With very deep sorrow, I must inform friends of Ken Berry that he died a short time ago." She later expressed her gratitude for the flowing condolences. "I'm feeling so much love and gratitude for the affection and kindness expressed by Ken's friends and admirers," she noted in another Facebook post wherein she also thanked Susie Walsh, "Ken's dear partner for the last 26 years, for bringing him laughter, devotion, and care."

Minutes after Jackie announced Ken's death, Larry Storch shared his own sweet tribute to his late co-star. Posting a photo of himself with Ken on Facebook, he wrote, "Dear friends, we are sad to let you know our beloved Captain, Mr Ken Berry passed away tonight. We just spoke with Jackie Joseph who confirmed to devastating news. We are at a true loss of words. Ken, we hope you know how much you were loved. Goodnight, Captain. We miss you already."

Ken made his official TV debut in 1959 on Andy Williams' "The Chevy Showroom". He went on to build a career which included a recurring role on "Dr. Kildare" and another role on "Mayberry R.F.D.". He is best known for his role as an accident prone Captain Parmenter on "F-Troop" and as Vinton Harper on "Mama's Family", and made numerous appearances on "The Carol Burnett Show".
