Multiple Roald Dahl Animated Series Coming to Netflix

Among the titles included in the list in the agreement between the streaming giant and the Roald Dahl Story Company are 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', 'Matilda', 'The BFG' and 'The Twits'.

AceShowbiz - The world of Road Dahl is about to head to the small screen. Netflix has announced that it is developing "a new slate of original animated event series" based on the author's popular novels including "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", "Matilda", "James and the Giant Peach", "The BFG" and "The Twits" among others.

"Our mission, which is purposefully lofty, is for as many children as possible around the world to experience the unique magic and positive message of Roald Dahl's stories," Felicity Dahl, Dahl's widow, said in a statement on Tuesday, November 27. "This partnership with Netflix marks a significant move toward making that possible and is an incredibly exciting new chapter for the Roald Dahl Story Company. Roald would, I know, be thrilled."

Melissa Cobb, the vice president of kids and family content at Netflix, added, "Immersing ourselves in the extraordinary worlds of Roald Dahl stories has been an honor and a massive amount of fun, and we are grateful for the trust the Roald Dahl Story Company and the Dahl family have placed in our team to deliver more moments of shared joy to families around the world."

Among the titles included in the list in the agreement between Netflix and the Roald Dahl Story Company are "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", "Matilda", "The BFG", "The Twits", "Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator", "George's Marvellous Medicine", 'Boy - Tales of Childhood", "Going Solo", "The Enormous Crocodile", "The Giraffe' and "Pelly and Me", "Henry Sugar", "Billy and the Minpins", "The Magic Finger", "Esio Trot", "Dirty Beasts" and "Rhyme Stew". The production is slated to start next year.

Some of Dahl's works have already been adapted for the screen. That includes animated 1966 Disney adaptation of "James and the Giant Peach", 1971's movie "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" with Gene WIlder. "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" was also made into a feature film in 2005, starring Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka and Freddie Highmore as Charlie Bucket. In addition, "Matilda" was brought to Broadway in 2013. The popular musical won Tony Award and ran for almost four years.
