Family of the former 'Melrose Place' star are said to be considering the appointment of legal guardian similar to that put on Britney Spears in the wake of her emergency hospitalization in 2008.

AceShowbiz - Heather Locklear's family is reportedly considering putting the actress under a conservatorship following her recent hospitalisation.

Police officers were called to her home following reports of a medical issue, and the former "Melrose Place" star was taken to a hospital on Sunday afternoon (November 18) after her therapist determined she was having a mental breakdown, according to TMZ.

Now, according to editors at website The Blast, the 57-year-old actress's family is so concerned about her health and well-being, they are considering putting her under a conservatorship to manage her finances and medical treatments.

In 2008, Britney Spears' father Jamie and attorney Andrew M. Wallet were installed as co-conservators of the singer's estate by a judge in the wake of her dual emergency hospitalisations in January 2008.

Heather's family is now said to be considering who to put in charge of the conservatorship, aside from her parents, who are too old to take on the responsibility.

The "Dynasty" actress was first hospitalised in June after she threatened to shoot herself following a spat with her fiance, Chris Heisser. She was released days later and then arrested for attacking a paramedic.

She was hospitalised again weeks later after a reported overdose, and then spent the rest of the summer in rehab, a stint her family believes she ended too early, because she wanted to be out for her daughter Ava's 21st birthday.

In August, Heather was charged with a misdemeanor count of interfering with a law enforcement officer and two counts of misdemeanor battery for allegedly attacking the first responders, according to TMZ.

She was also arrested in February for felony domestic violence, as well as battery on a cop. The "T.J. Hooker" star was charged with five criminal offences in that case. The three new counts will be added to the complaint.

Heather plead not guilty back in April.
