Announcing her next film project, the 'Legally Blonde' star states that she and her team are striving to showcase brave, brilliant female characters through the adaptation of Heath Lee's book.

AceShowbiz - Reese Witherspoon is producing an adaptation of author Heath Lee's upcoming book "League of Wives".

The "Big Little Lies" star will develop the film, based on Heath Lee's book "The League of Wives: The Untold Story of the Women Who Took on the President, the Pentagon and the Rest of the US Government to Bring Their Husbands Home", which comes out next year (19).

The book centres on a group of military wives who come together to save their fighter pilot husbands, who were shot down and imprisoned during the Vietnam War, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"At Hello Sunshine, we strive to showcase brave, brilliant female characters, and the women of 'League of Wives' are all of that and more," a statement from Witherspoon reads. "From the minute I heard about this inspiring true story, I knew it was a perfect fit for us. I'm excited to be partnering with the team at Fox 2000 to bring this special book to life on-screen, and to be giving audiences a glimpse at this meaningful moment in American History."

A production date has yet to be announced.
