The Australian actress will also serve as executive producer on the series, which will mark her U.S. TV debut.

AceShowbiz - Australian actress Cate Blanchett will make her U.S. TV debut in limited series "Mrs. America" next year (19).

The show will centre on the true story of the fight to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) in the 1970s, and the opposition from a conservative woman named Phyllis Schlafly, who Blanchett will portray.

The nine-episode series will begin production next year and the "Blue Jasmine" star will also serve as an executive producer.

"I feel privileged to have this opportunity to collaborate with (writer) Davhi (Waller), (producer) Stacey (Sher) and (executive producer) Coco (Francini) under the robust and fearless FX (network) umbrella," Blanchett says. "I am extremely excited about delving into the material as there couldn't be a more appropriate time to peel back the layers of this recent period of history, which couldn't be more relevant today."
