AceShowbiz - After a year, "The Orville" will soon return for season 2 in December. The FOX Star Trek-inspired comedy has released a new teaser trailer for a viewing pleasure. The new season will seemingly take the characters on a new mission as well as feature epic adventures for everyone to enjoy.

The new footage opens with the spacecraft, which has Seth MacFarlane's Capt Ed Mercer, Scott Grimes' Lt. Gordon Malloy, Halston Sage's Lt. Alara Kitan on board among others, heading to "big potato." It seems like Mercer will face some danger as he's seen being held at gunpoint.

"Don't do this," he says to the one who is pointing gun at him.

The teaser trailer also features an elephant-nosed alien. The alien quips, "Man, this is b***hin'."

Fans assume that the sophomore season will see Captain Mercer being separated from his ship. It looks like viewers will meet more bad guys on the horizon as Mercer and his crew travel the galaxy.

Created by MacFarlane, "The Orville" follows Ed Mercer, an officer in the Planetary Union's line of exploratory space vessels whose career took a downturn following his divorce. He is given the titular ship as his first command, only to discover that his ex-wife, Kelly Grayson (Adrianne Palicki), has been assigned to be his First Officer. In addition to Star Trek, the show is also inspired by "The Twilight Zone".

The comedy premiered in September last year with FOX renewing the series for a second season on November 2, 2017. Also starring on the series are Penny Johnson Jerald as Doctor Claire Finn, Peter Macon and Lt. Commander Boretus, J. Lee as Lt. Commander John LaMarr and Mark Jackson as Science and Engineering Officer Isaac.

Season 2 of "The Orville" premieres Sunday, December 30 on FOX.
