The current boyfriend of Jennifer Lopez requests to lower the monthly support to $20K plus expenses due to his financial circumstances, but Cynthia Scurtis is negotiating for $50K a month.

AceShowbiz - Retired sportsman Alex Rodriguez is reportedly locked in a legal battle with his ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis over spousal and child support.

The former New York Yankees baseball star, who is currently dating Jennifer Lopez, finalised his divorce from Cynthia in 2008, after six years of marriage. At the time, they agreed he would pay her $115,000 (£88,600) a month tax free in combined spousal and child support, for their daughters Natasha, 13, and Ella, 10.

However, Rodriguez's financial circumstances have dramatically changed since he retired from the sport in 2016, and he is now looking to significantly reduce his payments to better reflect his new income.

Sources have told TMZ.com that the 43-year-old's yearly income has gone from $30 million (£23 million) a year to around $3 million (£2.3 million) a year, and their divorce settlement was always supposed to be adjusted upon his retirement.

The former sportsman has estimated that the expenses for his children can be anywhere between $7,000 (£5,400) to $12,000 (£9,000) a month, and is offering to pay his ex $20,000 (£15,000) a month plus expenses.

However, Cynthia is reportedly negotiating and hopes to receive almost $50,000 (£38,500) a month.

The source told the website that Rodriguez is "vexed" because his ex-wife is now rich, with millions to her name, three homes and luxury cars. According to the insider, he feels like he is bankrolling Cynthia, a psychology graduate who chooses not to work, her fiance, and their new child.

The divorce was a bitter one, with Cynthia accusing Alex of extramarital affairs and "marital misconduct", leading to Madonna having to issue a statement denying any romantic involvement with the sportsman. The cost of the divorce settlement was undisclosed, but it is said to have cost him millions of dollars.

Alex has been dating Jennifer since early 2017.
