The lead star Ezra Miller's commitment to another project, a third 'Fantastic Beasts' movie, would cause scheduling conflicts if The Flash movie begins filming later than its initial start date.

AceShowbiz - The Flash's super speed isn't helpful when it comes to accelerating a movie making process. "The Flash" standalone movie has not received a formal greenlight yet, but Warner Bros. had been eying a March 2019 start date. However, the script is not ready and is still being tweaked, making it impossible to start the production as scheduled in the spring, according to Variety.

This raises another problem since Ezra Miller, who is attached to portray the Scarlet Speedster in the standalone movie, is also booked to return for a third "Fantastic Beasts" movie, which is scheduled to start production in July. This leaves the remaining alternate scenario to pushing back the production date to late 2019, which means the superhero adventure movie won't make it into theaters at least until 2021. The project, which was previously called "Flashpoint", was previously expected to arrive in 2020.

"The Flash" movie, which has been in development for years, has faced several setbacks when several directors dropped out of the project. "The Lego Movie" filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were at one point set to direct the film, but had to let go of the superhero movie because of their already packed schedules.

Seth Grahame-Smith later came on board the project, but departed in April 2016 due to "creative differences." Rick Famuyiwa was then tapped as a replacement, but also exited in October 2016, citing a similar reason. In January this year, WB finally found the new director in "Spider-Man: Homecoming" scribes John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein.

Ezra Miller's The Flash has been introduced in 2016's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" with a short cameo appearance, before teaming up with Superman (Henry Cavill), Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) in 2017's "Justice League".

While an Aquaman movie is set to arrive later this year and a "Wonder Woman" sequel is coming next year, the studio has not made a decision regarding future Superman and Batman films.
