After prosecutors announced their decision to drop the case at a hearing in Manhattan, a lawyer for the former actress chides the District Attorney's office for mishandling the case.

AceShowbiz - Harvey Weinstein had one of the three sexual assault cases against him dismissed at a hearing in Manhattan on Thursday, October 11.

Manhattan's district attorney decided to drop the case against Weinstein involving accusations from former actress Lucia Evans, who was among the first of many women to accuse the movie producer of sexual assault.

The decision was announced in court, in the presence of the shamed movie mogul.

According to the Associated Press, Assistant District Attorney Joan Illuzzi-Orbon told the presiding judge prosecutors would not oppose the dismissal of the case involving Evans, and insisted the rest of her case, involving two other female accusers, is strong.

Evans' lawyer told the court that the dismissal indicated nothing about the truth of her client's allegations, blaming the District Attorney's office for mishandling the case.

TMZ.com reports that the lead detective investigating Weinstein is under investigation for allegedly tampering with a witness who claimed Evans told her she voluntarily engaged in oral sex with him.

Weinstein has been accused by many actresses and employees of sexual misconduct, including rape. He has denied all allegations of non-consensual sex but still faces charges over allegations that he raped an unidentified woman in his hotel room in 2013 and forced another woman into a sex act in 2006.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is free on $1 million (£760,000) bail.
