Days after Aida Tekla stood by the questionable article published in the in-flight magazine, the editor-in-chief of Horus magazine and the head of its publisher issue an apology.

AceShowbiz - Officials for EgyptAir's in-flight magazine have apologised for its "bizarre" profile piece on Drew Barrymore.

The interview went viral on social media earlier this month after political analyst Adam Baron shared pictures of the "surreal" article in Horus. The piece was written in imperfect English and filled with grammatical errors and insensitively described the actress as "being unstable in her relationships".

Representatives for Barrymore told HuffPost that the "Charlie's Angels" star "did not participate" in the interview, leading many to question if it was fake, but writer Aida Takla insisted it was genuine and EgyptAir officials stood by her.

On Tuesday, October 09, the editor-in-chief of Horus magazine and the head of its publisher, Ahram Advertising Agency, released a letter apologising for the piece, saying, "We apologise for any misunderstanding that might be interpreted as an offence to the great artist."

They said the interview had been conducted in English by Takla, translated into Arabic and then translated back into English, which they said happens to all material submitted in a foreign language. They did not directly address claims the interview had been fabricated.

The publisher said the controversial introduction, which described the 43-year-old as having had "several unsuccessful marriages" and said she was taking a break to focus on her children, wasn't written by Takla and could be a "product of the editor's creativity on the condition that it contains no information that is contrary to the truth". They said they would be investigating it by "checking thoroughly the source material that the translator depended on to write the interview."

They added the star's reps had agreed to do the interview "not knowing" that the journalist worked for the in-flight magazine and other publications.

Aida Takla - full name Aida Takla O'Reilly - was born in Egypt and previously served as president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). The organisation recently said it was investigating the interview.
